The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has showed that salaries of greater than 2,000 public finance employees, that have been quickly suspended, might be restored following verification in their employment standing and the finishing touch of the specified clearance with the Ghana Audit Service.

The Department defined that the transient wage suspension was once performed at the advice of the Auditor-General and in strict compliance with Public Financial Management (PFM) rules.

Speaking to Citi News on Monday, 2 February 2026, the Controller and Accountant-General, Kwasi Agyei, reaffirmed the Department’s dedication to clear payroll innovation and the well timed cost of salaries in keeping with PFM rules.

“The Auditor-General conducted a headcount exercise last year and, just last month, wrote to us indicating that about 6,000 officers had not participated in the exercise and therefore should not be paid,” he stated.

He clarified that additional inner exams lowered the collection of affected employees considerably.

“However, after our internal analysis, we realised that only about 2,000 officers were affected, as issues relating to the others had already been resolved,” Mr Agyei added.

Mr Agyei famous that wage bills have been suspended to permit for correct verification.

“As a result, we suspended salary payments for those affected and have written to their respective institutions to inform the staff to avail themselves to the Ghana Audit Service for verification. Once the Auditor-General completes the process and formally notifies us, we will reactivate their payments,” he said.
