🚨 Breaking News: Transparency International rejects calls to scrap OSP as ‘useless and untimely’ – Life Pulse Daily

📰 Check out the main points:

Executive Director of Transparency International Ghana, Mary Addah, has driven again towards proposals to abolish the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), arguing that such calls are ill-timed and unjustified.

Her reaction comes after two MPs — Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor — collectively submitted a Private Members’ Bill searching for a complete repeal of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2017 (Act 959).

The proposed regulation, dated December 8, would repair sole prosecutorial authority over corruption-related offences to the Attorney-General, as equipped beneath Article 88 of the Constitution.

The sponsors of the Bill contend that the OSP’s 8 years of life have uncovered deep structural and constitutional demanding situations, together with overlapping mandates and friction with the Attorney-General’s Department, leading to duplicated efforts and slowed prosecutions.

Speaking to reporters in Accra on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Ms Addah rejected the root for disbanding the administrative center, insisting that the OSP is best now gaining the traction had to make significant innovation tools.

“We are in the best stages of the office. The calls for it to be scrapped are very much unnecessary. It is sad that we have to be talking about this now,” she wired.

She wondered the push to repeal the legislation, noting: “The Attorney-General’s office has been there for more than 100 years. How many cases have they prosecuted? Perhaps we want quick action and results — and we cannot fault Ghanaians for that — but I think we should hasten slowly.”
